EVP and Chief Financial Officer, Sony Corporation of America
Steven E. Kober was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sony Corporation of America (SCA) in June 2012. In this role, he works with Sony’s U.S. businesses as well as the Company’s global headquarters in Tokyo on such matters as financial reporting, acquisitions, divestitures and investments. He is also responsible for managing the work of such shared services as business development, tax, treasury and IT.
Mr. Kober serves as an officer and director of many of the Company’s subsidiaries. He serves as Chairman of the Board of InterTrust Technologies Corporation, a company that develops and licenses intellectual property for digital rights management and trusted computing, in which Sony has a 49.5% interest. Among his other Board positions are member of the Board of Directors of Gracenote, a global leader in embedded technology, enriched content and data services for digital entertainment solutions; Sony/ATV Music Publishing, a 50/50 joint venture established in 1995 between Sony and Michael Jackson; and DH Publishing, L.P., a company formed by the investor group led by SCA that acquired the assets of EMI Music Publishing, the world’s largest music publishing company.
Mr. Kober joined SCA as Assistant Controller in 1989, and, over the years, assumed increasing responsibility as Vice President and Controller, Senior Vice President and Controller, and then Senior Vice President of Finance. He began his career at the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked for 12 years as a senior audit manager.
Mr. Kober earned both his B.S. in Accounting and Finance and an M.B.A. in Taxation from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
