Sony and the Environment

Sony Environmental Initiative

As Sir Howard Stringer mentioned in his keynote address, Sony recognizes how closely linked its business activities are to environmental issues across all Sony divisions, including Sony Pictures, Sony Electronics, Sony Home Entertainment, Sony Ericsson, and PlayStation.

Sony Environmental Initiative

For example, Sony Electronics is striving to create the ultimate closed loop product life cycle. Using recycled materials, innovating production processes, building energy efficient products, and increasing the ease of recycling to reinforce Sony's commitment to sustainability and consideration for our environment. Products like the ECO BRAVIA show the fruits of this labor, and how the commitment continues all the way through to the marketplace.

Sony Environmental Initiative

Sony is a signer of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF); that means that the company agrees to:
  • Cut greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) 7% by 2010
  • Sony will reduce CO2 emissions from product use by lowering annual energy consumption of major Sony Products
  • Sony will raise consumer awareness of global warming prevention
