The Sony HD Experience
This shopping guide is designed to help make your High-Definition experience as simple and fulfilling as possible. Here you will find advice, preparation tools and steps to choosing the right Sony High-Definition products to enhance your home entertainment experiences. Find out which HD products are right for you.
Choose the right Sony High-Definition 1080p television, including size, model and color.
Two styles of High-Definition televisions from Sony include:
- The BRAVIA® LCD - Flat panel and fabulously sleek.
- The BRAVIA SXRD® - A larger screen size for the money.
Your television shows, sports and movies will look spectacular on a Sony BRAVIA HDTV. Deciding where you will watch your HDTV will determine the type of set you will need.
- Will you definitely be wall-mounting your TV? Then consider a Sony BRAVIA flat panel LCD HDTV.
- If your TV is going in a cabinet or on a stand, then consider either a BRAVIA flat panel LCD HDTV, which comes with its own pedestal, or a BRAVIA rear projection HDTV.
- If your room has lots of sunlight, lamps or overhead lighting, you’ll be glad to know Sony BRAVIA HDTVs use a low-glare screen and reduce reflections that you might find with other TVs.
Upgrade your signal or content source to High Definition with HD cable/satellite, Sony Blu-ray Disc™ player, Sony HD Handycam® camcorder and/or Sony Cyber-shot® camera with HD viewing.*
Enhancing your home entertainment experience with High-Definition service is as simple as installing an HD antenna or calling your cable or satellite company and letting them know you have an HDTV. They will arrange an appointment, bring all the necessary equipment you need and install the HD box to your HDTV. Without this HD box from your cable or satellite provider, you will still be watching standard-definition TV.
In addition to an HD antenna, there are two primary sources of High-Definition signals for your HDTV viewing:
- High-Definition cable service.
- High-Definition satellite service.
Boost your HD Experience
There are many additional ways to get the Sony HD Experience with content for your HDTV beyond just your cable or satellite provider. From astounding Sony Blu-ray Disc™ players and HD Handycam® camcorders to digital Sony Cyber-shot® cameras with HD output*, if the ultimate HD experience is what you desire, you must have the right source.
*HD output requires HDTV and Sony HD component cable or cradle, both sold separately.

Connect your components with the right High-Definition cables and properly mount or install your equipment.
Once your HDTV is at home, you will need to install it and connect the various sources. This is easier than you think. There are two ways to go:
- Use your retailer's delivery on installation service.
- Set it up yourself.
Placement: Stands vs. Mounting
When determining placement for your HDTV, consider the height at which the HDTV will be displayed. It may be different than the TV it is replacing. It is also important to note that since LCD technology offers wider viewing angles, up to 178°, you can be more flexible with your seating setup. So when choosing between wall mounting and table stands for displaying your HDTV, be sure to use ones that are qualified for use with your TV. Each is sold separately and depends on the type of HDTV you are displaying.
Connections
To get the most from your HD Experience, use Sony HDMI™ (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cables. HDMI cables deliver the best possible digital, High-Definition video with the easiest setup, for a superior viewing experience. They allow you to keep the same crisp signal that enters your house to pass directly into your set-box, all the way into your HDTV. Plus, they reduce the complexity of connections to one simple cable.
