Sony Corporation of America Joins with UNICEF to Support Learning Passport in Latin America
Sony Corporation of America - 10/27/2020
UNICEF today announced that Sony Corporation of America, on behalf of Sony’s affiliates in the Americas, will be supporting the rollout of the Learning Passport in Latin America. By extending the reach of this innovative and remote digital learning platform, UNICEF and Sony will ensure that children and young people across the region can access high-quality education both online and offline.
Funds from Sony will also go towards the creation of a library of critical Spanish-language learning resources for children, teachers, parents, and caregivers.
This donation is being made through Sony’s COVID-19 Global Relief Fund.
Originally launched as a partnership between UNICEF, Microsoft, and the University of Cambridge to support displaced and refugee children, the Learning Passport has undergone rapid expansion this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted the education of 1.5 billion children across the globe.
The platform provides a digitized curriculum, featuring textbooks and a selection of supplemental content in national languages, jointly curated at the country-level to best serve learners’ and educators’ needs. By capturing a record of learning for each student, the Learning Passport guide learners with little additional support needed, and provides each with a unique, personalized record that can be taken across physical & digital borders.
The Learning Passport is an example of how UNICEF partners with business – based on a shared-value approach, where producing social value and addressing its challenges also makes perfect business sense.
