The TV picture gets dimmer, darkens or changes brightness automatically on some scenes.

As part of the normal operation of the TV, the image will dim in a effort to enhance the overall picture contrast. Follow the steps in this solution if you feel that the dimming process is causing the image to appear darker than desired or if you can see the dimming occur and it is unwanted.

  1. Ensure the latest software update is installed in the TV.
    1. Press the MENU button on the supplied remote.
    2. Press the left arrow to select Setup.
    3. Press the up arrow or down arrow, select Product Support.

    IMPORTANT: A software update is available for some TVs produced before June 2009 that reduces the effect of picture dimming. Verify the TV is running software version ER3.84 or higher. If the TV is running an older version of the software, download the update. Downloads are posted on your model support page.

  2. After ensuring the TV has software version ER3.84 or higher, reduce the backlight dimming effect by setting the Advanced Contrast Enhancer setting to Low or Off.
    1. Using the supplied remote, press the MENU button.
    2. Using the control arrows, select Setup.
    3. Press the Select button.
    4. Press the up arrow or down arrow to select Picture.
    5. Press the Select button.
    6. Press the up arrow or down arrow to select Adv. Contrast Enhancer.
    7. Press the Select button.
    8. Press the control arrows to select either Low or Off.
    9. Press the Select button.
    10. Press the MENU button to exit the menu.
