The recorder does not detect when a blank DVD or CD is inserted.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

  1. Make sure you are using a compatible disc .
  2. Make sure the recorder is installed on the computer alone as a secondary master drive.
  3. Make sure it is listed in the Device Manager.
    1. Right-click My Computer.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click the Device Manager button.
    5. Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives.
    6. Under DVD/CD-ROM drives, check the make sure the listed Sony drive does not have any yellow exclamation marks (!) showing.
  4. Make sure there are no corrupt Nero ASPI files.
    1. Go to the Nero tool kit.
    2. Click the ASPI tab.
    3. In the arrow down tab, at the bottom, make sure it displays ASPI and that it is installed.

      IMPORTANT: If it is not displaying or says it is not installed, then an update is recommended.

  5. Download the latest firmware update. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
  6. Make sure DMA is turned off.
    1. On the computer, right-click My Computer.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click the Device Manager button.
    5. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
    6. Double-click Secondary IDE Controller.
    7. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
    8. Change the Transfer Mode settings for Device 0 and Device 1 to PIO Only.
