Is there a proper way to disconnect a camera USB connection from a Macintosh® computer?

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

There are three different ways the camera USB connection should be removed from a Macintosh computer. Properly removing the camera helps avoid instances that may damage the recording media or corrupt the image files.

Method 1

  1. On the computer desktop, click and hold the NO NAME icon.
  2. Drag the NO NAME icon to the TRASH icon.

NOTE: The TRASH icon momentarily becomes an EJECT icon. After the EJECT icon disappears, it is safe to remove the camera.

Method 2

  1. On the computer desktop, click to select the NO NAME icon.
  2. On the computer keyboard, press the Command (Apple) + E keys.

Method 3

  1. On the computer desktop, click to select the NO NAME icon.
  2. On the computer keyboard, press the Control + Click keys
  3. In the drop-down list that appears, click to select EJECT NO NAME.

IMPORTANT:

  • Some cameras come pre-installed with Picture Motion Browser (PMB) Portable software. In this case a PMBPORTABLE icon also appears on the computer. One of the listed procedures should also be used to safely remove the camera when using the PMB Portable software.
  • If your camera has a flash memory or hard drive with other recording media inserted as well, an UNTITLED icon or additional NO NAME icon appears. Remove these other icons also using any of the methods listed here.
