IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section of this article before starting these steps.

The LCD screen may turn light and dark when shooting outside because the brightness of the LCD screen automatically adjusts to the lighting conditions using the ambient light sensor. The LCD Brightness option in the Setup menu is set to Auto, which is the factory default setting. To eliminate this issue, set the LCD Brightness option to Manual or Sunny Weather.

IMPORTANT: The ambient light sensor is mounted on the upper left (DSC-RX series) or lower left (NEX-3, C3, 5, 5N, 7) of the camera LCD screen and will not work properly if covered by your hand.

NOTE: If model-specific information is required for changing the LCD Brightness option, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
