Dark Horizontal Bands Appear When Recording a Video Under Artificial Lights

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

Artificial light sources such as fluorescent, sodium or mercury vapor, and LED bulbs cycle on and off at a particular frequency.

A fast shutter speed setting can record the on and off cycles of the light source and show up on the video as horizontal lines, banding, or flickering effects.

Shooting under different lighting or adjusting the shutter speed to a slower setting can help eliminate this issue.

Note: Some third-party, post-production software offers a 3-way color corrector tool that may help eliminate these lines in existing video recordings.
