How to perform a Full Restore with Format.

Follow this procedure to perform a Full Restore with Format.

WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. All software applications, configurations, and data added to the restored drives will be erased.

IMPORTANT: Bundled software makes extensive use of the (D:) drive on this model for video capture, TV viewing, video editing, and other features. This software will not function correctly if the original (C:) and (D:) partitions are not maintained.

  1. Insert System Recovery CD #1 into the uppermost CD/DVD drive.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. In the System Recovery CD window, press the O key to select OK.

    IMPORTANT: If a warning appears that the (D:)drive is not found, additional input is required.

  4. In the MAIN MENU window, press the 2 key to select Full Restore with Format Drive (C:) and (D:).
  5. In the System Recovery CD window, press the Y key to select Yes to initiate Full Restore with Format.
  6. In the All data will be removed from the hard drive window, press Y to select Yes to continue.
  7. When prompted to insert CD #2, remove System Recovery CD #1.
  8. Insert System Recovery CD #2 into the CD/DVD drive.
  9. Press the Enter key to continue.
  10. When prompted to insert CD #1, remove System Recovery CD #2.
  11. Insert System Recovery CD #1 into the CD/DVD drive.
  12. Press the Enter key to continue.
  13. In the System Recovery complete window, remove System Recovery CD #1.
  14. Press the Enter key to restart.
  15. New hardware will be detected and installed on the system. When prompted for drivers, insert the Driver Recovery CD into the CD/DVD drive to complete the driver installation.
  16. In the Restart the Computer window, click Yes to restart the computer.

    NOTE: The procedure to install drivers may repeat a second time.

  17. Follow the installation setup wizard to complete the setup process.
  18. In the Sony Application Recovery Program window, remove the Driver Recovery CD.
  19. Insert Application Recovery CD #1.
  20. Click OK. The recovery program will start and install several modules and applications.
  21. In the Please Insert your Microsoft WORD 2000 CD window, click Cancel.

    IMPORTANT: If the word processing installation is not canceled, there will not be a prompt to enter a unique Product ID for the application. Without the unique Product ID, activation or registration of the application may not be allowed.

  22. In the Sony Application Recovery Program window, remove the Application Recovery CD.
  23. Click OK to restart the computer.
  24. To install Microsoft® Word, insert the Microsoft Word 2000 CD into the CD/DVD drive.
  25. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  26. In the Restart the computer window, click the OK button.
  27. Download and install all available driver and software updates for this model. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
