How to perform a full restore with format.

Follow this procedure to perform a full restore with format:

WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. All software applications, configurations, and data added to the restored drives will be erased.

  1. Connect the notebook computer to AC power.
  2. Insert System Recovery CD #1 into the CD/DVD drive.
  3. Turn off the computer.
  4. Turn on the computer.
  5. In the System Recovery CD window, press the O key to select OK.

    IMPORTANT: If a warning appears that the (D:) drive is not found, additional input is required.

  6. In the MAIN MENU window, press the 2 key to select Full Restore with Format Drive (C:) and (D:).
  7. In the System Recovery CD window, press the Y key to select Yes to initiate Full Restore with Format.
  8. In the All data will be removed from the hard drive window, press Y to select Yes to continue.
  9. When prompted to insert CD #2, remove System Recovery CD #1.
  10. Insert System Recovery CD #2 into the CD/DVD drive.
  11. Press the Enter key to continue.
  12. When prompted to insert CD #1, remove System Recovery CD #2.
  13. Insert System Recovery CD #1 into the CD/DVD drive.
  14. Press the Enter key to continue.
  15. In the Remove the System Recovery CD window, remove System Recovery CD disc 1.
  16. Press the ENTER key to restart the computer. New hardware will be detected and installed on the system.
  17. In the Restart the Computer window, click Yes to restart the computer.
  18. Follow the Installation Setup wizard to complete the setup process.
  19. In the VAIO InitManager dialog box, click the Continue button.

    IMPORTANT: To use the Sony® utilities such as Jog Dial® software, Memory Stick® drive or the HotKeys, the VAIO® InitManager must be allowed to run. If it is canceled, the VAIO InitManager will reload every time the computer is restarted until it is allowed to initialize the computer.

  20. In the System Settings Change window, click the No button.
  21. In the Insert Application Recovery CD #1 window, insert Application Recovery CD #1.
  22. Click the OK button.
  23. In the Please Insert your Microsoft WORD 2000 CD window, click Cancel.

    IMPORTANT: If the Word Processing installation is not canceled, there will not be a prompt to enter a unique Product ID for the application. Without the unique Product ID, activation or registration of the application may not be allowed.

  24. In the Sony Application Recovery Program window, remove the Application Recovery CD.
  25. Click OK to restart the computer.
  26. To install Microsoft® Word, insert the Microsoft Word 2000 CD into the CD/DVD drive.
  27. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  28. In the Restart the computer window, click the OK button.
  29. Download and install all available driver and software updates for this model. Updates are available online. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
