The broadcast range of a weather band radio transmitter is approximately 40 miles. The effective range depends on the surrounding terrain, quality of the receiver, and the use of indoor or outdoor antennas.
There are seven weather band channels that correspond to the radio frequencies utilized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for weather radio. The seven NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) broadcast frequencies are:
