How to synchronize with the Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ® software.

Follow these steps to synchronize with the Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ® software.

WARNING: There is a risk of software corruption. After completing this procedure, be sure to perform a HotSync® operation before installing any third-party applications.


  • An email client application must be setup prior to this procedure.
  • Only Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) compliant mail applications are supported. Internet mail services, such as the Hotmail® email service, are not currently supported.

NOTE: Installation steps may vary if an existing user is found or when reinstalling the software.

  1. In the Setup window, click to select Synchronize with Palm Desktop for CLIE .
  2. Click the Next button.
  3. Under Setup Type , click the Next button.
  4. Under Create User Account , next to User Name , enter the desired name.
  5. NOTE: The name entered will be used to identify the handheld as well as serve as the user ID.

  6. Click the Next button.
  7. Under Perform Mail Setup , click the Yes button.
  8. In the Mail Setup window, next to the Synchronize with: box, click the down arrow and select the desired email application.
  9. IMPORTANT: The e-mail application selected must be the same as the default email client.

  10. Click the Next button.
  11. In the Congratulations! Your Mail is now setup... window, click the Next button.
  12. In the Palm Desktop for CLIE Setup is complete window, click to clear the Proceed to Sony CLIÉ® handheld customer registration box.
  13. Click the Finish button.
  14. In the Warning dialog box, click the OK button.
  15. Perform a HotSync® operation .
