If there are specs of dust particles floating in the air, they can be illuminated by the strong light of the flash and sometimes appear in a recorded image as white, round glare spots (aka orbs). This symptom tends to occur in low-light environments when using a compact digital camera because of the close proximity of the flash to the lens assembly. It is not a malfunction.
Turn off the flash if glare spots appear in the picture and increase the ISO sensitivity of the camera when sufficient brightness cannot be obtained such as shooting indoors for cameras that have an ISO sensitivity function. Also, shoot using a tripod or with the camera held firmly to prevent camera shake.
