How to convert a movie file into the Memory Stick Video (MP4) format using the Image Converter 3 version 3.1 software for use with the Walkman® Video MP3 player.

You can convert the following video file formats into the Memory Stick Video (MP4) format for use with the Walkman Video MP3 player: AVI, MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, Apple® QuickTime® format, WMV, files recorded with Giga Pocket® software version 5.0 or higher, VAIO Zone and VAIO Media™ software.

Follow this procedure to convert the movie file:

  • First create a folder to save the movie files in:
  1. Click Start and then click My Computer.
  2. In the My Computer window, double-click Local Disk (C:).
  3. In the Local Disk (C:) window, double-click Documents and Settings.
  4. In the Documents and Settings window, double-click All Users.
  5. In the All Users window, on the menu, click File , point to New , and then click Folder.
  6. Type Walkman_Videos for the name of the folder.

NOTE: You can name the folder anything you like. However, Walkman_Videos will be used for this procedure.

  • Next, set the Temporary location for converted files to match the location you just created.
  1. Start the Image Converter software.
  2. In the Image Converter 3 window, on the menu, click File and then click Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, under Categories - Video, click to select Temporary storage location.
  4. Click to select Do not delete the converted temporary files from the computer.
  5. Under Temporary location for converted files, click the Browse button.
  6. In the Browse for Folder window, click the + (plus) sign in front of Local Disk (C:).
  7. Click the + (plus) sign in front of Documents and Settings.
  8. Click the + (plus) sign in front of All Users.
  9. Click to select Walkman_Videos.
  10. Click OK.
  • Next, change the settings to match the type of file required by the portable player:
  1. In the Settings window, under Categories, click to select Video.
  2. In the right pane, under Conversion settings, next to Video Codec, click the down arrow to select the video codec. You can select either MPEG4 or AVC Baseline Profile.

    IMPORTANT: Do not select AVC Main Profile. While your Walkman Video player is compatible with an AVC: Baseline Profile codec, the codec of this output file is AVC :Main profile and is not compatible with the portable player. It is typically used for the Sony PSP® system.

  3. Under Video quality , click the down arrow and select the desired video quality.
  4. You can also click to select your desired aspect ratio.
  5. Click OK .
  • Next, convert the file:
  1. Click the Add to the List button.
  2. In the Add to the List window, locate the video files you would like to transfer to the portable player.
  3. Once you have located the file, click to select it and then click the Open button.
  4. In the Image Converter 3 window, click to select the movie file.
  5. Click the Conversion button.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. In the Confirm Conversion Settings box, click the OK button.
  8. Close the Image Converter 3 software.
  • Next, transfer the movie file over to your Walkman® Video Player:
  1. Connect the portable player to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
  2. Click Start and then click My Computer.
  3. In the My Computer window, double-click Local Disk (C:).
  4. In the Local Disk (C:) window, double-click Documents and Settings.
  5. In the Documents and Settings window, double-click All Users.
  6. In the All Users window, double-click Walkman_Videos.
  7. In the Walkman_Videos window, right-click the MP4 movie file you just converted and then click Copy from the menu.
  8. Close the Walkman_Videos window.
  9. Click Start and then click My Computer.
  10. In the My Computer window, under Other, double-click WALKMAN.
  11. In the My Computer\WALKMAN window, double-click Storage Media.
  12. In the My Computer\WALKMAN\Storage Media window, double-click the VIDEO folder.
  13. In the My Computer\WALKMAN\Storage Media\VIDEO window, on the menu, click Edit and then click Paste.
  14. The movie file will now be on your portable player.
