Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

Depending on the capabilities of your television or monitor, video recorded in the 16:9 WIDE mode may seem to be stretched when viewed on a standard 4:3 aspect ratio television screen or PC monitor. Video recorded in this mode is meant to be played back on a 16:9 aspect ratio television or monitor.

When the television is set to 4:3 mode, video recorded in 16:9 WIDE mode will appear stretched on a standard 4:3 aspect ratio television or monitor. Set the television or monitor to wide mode to view the video as it appeared on the LCD screen or viewfinder. Refer to the manual included with your television or monitor for information on available features and specifications.

In addition, you may have to change the playback settings on your camera. For information on changing playback settings, refer to the operating instructions or handbook included with your camcorder. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

IMPORTANT: To playback correctly in full-screen mode on a standard 4:3 aspect ratio television monitor, video must be recorded in the 4:3 mode.
