Switch Access Feature on Android TV

Switch Access allows people with dexterity or fine motor skill impairments to operate their Android TV™ device using switch devices from companies such as AbleNet and Enabling Devices, instead of using the small buttons on the supplied remote control.

Before You Start

  • You'll need a computer mouse to enable Switch Access.
  • Make sure to check the compatibility of your switch device to your TV.
    • Check the switch device instruction manual for additional information.

Enable Switch Access

  1. Press the HOME button.
  2. Select Settings or theAndroid Oreo Settings icon.
  3. Select Accessibility.
  4. Select Switch Access.
  5. Select Enable.
  6. Select OK.
    • Wait for the Switch Access Setup Guide to display on your TV.
  7. Connect a computer mouse to the USB port on your TV.
  8. Select One switch or Two switches depending on the type of switch device.
  9. Select NEXT.
  10. Select Linear scanning or Row-column scanning.
  11. Select NEXT.
  12. Press a switch to activate the Switch Access setting.
  13. Choose the appropriate scanning speed (Slow, Medium, Fast or Custom).
  14. Select NEXT.
  15. Follow the on-screen directions to test the switch device.
  16. Select FINISH.

You may select PREVIOUS to go back and change your settings.

Connect the Switch Device to Your TV

The steps to connect a switch device vary depending on the device.

  • USB Switch Device

    USB switch device

    • Connect the USB switch device to the USB port on your TV. Check the switch device instruction manual for additional information.

  • Bluetooth® Switch Device

    Bluetooth Switch Device

    1. Set your switch device to pairing mode.
      • Check the switch device instruction manual for additional information.
    2. On the TV remote, press the HOME button.
    3. Select Settings or the Android Oreo Settingsicon.
    4. Select Bluetooth settings.
    5. Select Add device.
    6. Select your switch device.
      • Your switch device appears under Registered devices.
