Sudden Volume Increase Above Maximum on Certain STR-DG820 Multichannel A/V Receivers

Under certain circumstances, when the BRAVIA® Sync feature is activated on both your Sony television and your STR-DG820 A/V Receiver or the HDMI control feature is activated on a non-Sony television, the volume level may suddenly increase above the maximum level on your receiver; otherwise, this issue does not affect the overall usability of your receiver.

This issue is caused by a problem with the receiver firmware. In order to address this issue, you need to send your receiver to an authorized servicer for a firmware update.

If you want to check whether or not your specific receiver has this issue, please contact the Sony Customer Experience Center at 1-239-768-7547 for assistance.

If you choose not to update your receiver, we recommend that you do not activate the BRAVIA Sync or HDMI control feature on your receiver or, if you have activated it, that you turn this feature off.

    Important Notes

    • If you have access to the back of your receiver, check to see if there is a green or a blue dot sticker next to the model number label. If there is one, then your receiver is not affected.
    • The repair process will reset the receiver back to the original settings. It is recommended that you make note of all desired customized settings before requesting the repair.
