Connect Your Windows 8 Computer to a Wi-Fi Network or Access Point

    Watch the video tutorial or follow the steps below to connect your Windows® 8 computer to a Wi-Fi® network (router) or access point.

    IMPORTANT:

    • If your computer has an external wireless switch, set it to the on position. Not all computers have an external wireless switch. Check your manual for model-specific information.
    • If your router or access point is password-protected, make sure to obtain the password before attempting to connect.

    1. In the Settings of your computer, make sure Airplane mode is set to Off and the Wi-Fi button is set to On
      1. Move the mouse cursor to the bottom-right or top-right corner and click the Settings charm.

        • Another way to open the Settings screen is to press the Windows Logo + I key combination.
      2. In the Settings screen, select Change PC settings.

      3. In the PC Settings screen, click Wireless.

      4. In the Wireless tab, set Airplane mode to Off and set the Wi-Fi button to On.

    2. Move the mouse cursor to the bottom-right or top-right corner and click to the Settings charm.

    3. In the Settings screen, click on the wireless Wi-Fi icon.

    4. In the Networks screen, select your Wi-Fi router or access point.

      • Add a checkmark on the Connect automatically box if you want your computer to connect to the network automatically in the future.
    5. Click on the Connect button.
      • If required, enter the network password.
    6. In the Turn on sharing... screen, select the appropriate sharing option to automatically set the firewall and security settings on your computer.
