No sound from the audio system connected to the TV through ARC

Follow these steps if you don't get any sound through the Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection. If model-specific information is required to complete each step, check your manual.

Note: Make sure that your TV and audio system are ARC-compatible.If only one of the devices is ARC compatible, the HDMI® ARC feature can't be activated. To get sound from your TV, connect the audio system with an optical cable or audio cable.

    • Disconnect any third-party external devices like cable boxes, satellite receivers, or gaming consoles and perform the troubleshooting steps just with the audio system connected to the TV.
      • Third-party devices may cause the Control for HDMI or BRAVIA Sync function of the TV and the audio device to stop working.
    • Update the TV and the audio system with the latest software version.
    • Turn on the Control for HDMI or BRAVIA Sync on both devices.
    • Set the Audio Return Channel (ARC) or TV Audio Input Mode of the audio system to On or Auto.
    • Connect a high-speed HDMI cable to the HDMI ARC port of the TV and to the HDMI OUT ARC of the audio device.

If the issue still persists, check the following:

    1. Disconnect the HDMI cable from both devices and reconnect it.
    2. On your TV, set the speaker settings to Audio System.
    3. On your audio system, press the INPUT or TV button to switch the input to TV.
    4. Turn off the TV and the audio system.
    5. Turn on the TV first, then turn on the audio system.
    6. On your TV speaker settings, set the Digital Audio Output to PCM. If the audio system connected to the TV doesn't support DTS or Dolby Digital, it may not output sound depending on the type of broadcast or video.
Set the Digital audio out to PCM on your Android TV™device:
      1. On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
      2. Select  Settings.
      3. SelectSound or Display & Sound.
      4. Select Audio output.
        • Skip this step if unavailable.
      5. SelectDigital audio out, then set to PCM.
    7. Clear cache and clear data on your Android TV device.
    8. Perform a power reset on the TV and audio system:
      1. Turn off the TV and the audio system.
      2. Disconnect the power cords (mains lead) and the HDMI cable from both the TV and audio system. Leave it disconnected for about a minute.
      3. Reconnect the HDMI cable to the ARC HDMI input of the TV and the ARC HDMI OUT of the audio system.
      4. Connect the power cords of both the TV and audio system, and turn on both devices.
        • Turn on the TV first, then turn on the audio system.
