Samba TV® is a service name of a third-party company, Free Stream Media Corp. (not Sony). Sony Visual Products Inc. and Free Stream Media have collaborated to offer interactive TV features and services with certain BRAVIA™ televisions.
Samba TV offers the following applications:
- Samba Interactive TV, an application included with the firmware of certain BRAVIA televisions.
- Hotlist, an application available on certain Android TV™ and Google TV™ models.
- Samba TV Mobile, An application available on Android or iOS™ mobile devices (smartphones or tablets).
Samba Interactive TV is an application embedded in the firmware of the BRAVIA televisions listed below. Samba Interactive TV is provided by a third-party company, Free Stream Media Corp. (not Sony), operating under the service name Samba TV.
Samba Interactive TV allows you to choose to connect and associate your mobile device (e.g. smartphone or tablet) with your TV. If you so choose, Samba Interactive TV uses the TV’s viewing history to deliver viewing recommendations and interest-based advertisement to your paired mobile device, even when it is disconnected from your network. (See the Samba TV Mobile app answers section below for more details).
Samba Interactive TV is available on specific BRAVIA televisions as listed below:
You can opt into Samba Interactive TV either: (A) during your TV’s initial set-up flow; or (B) at any time on your TV screen in System Preferences, submenu Samba Interactive TV.
According to Samba TV, when you opt in to Samba Interactive TV on your TV, Samba TV may digitally recognize the on-screen content playing through your TV, such as shows and movies, utilizing its content database.
Samba TV digitally recognizes such content from your TV’s internal tuner or external devices such as set-top box, Blu-ray Disc™ player, Roku® or Apple TV® device, or other video device connected to your TV by HDMI. Samba TV does not recognize content played by installed apps like Netflix®, Hulu®, or YouTube™ applications installed on your BRAVIA TV.
No image from the TV screen is captured and sent from your BRAVIA TV. Samba TV’s technology captures only limited digital pixel information in order to attempt to match the content being viewed to Samba TV’s database of publicly available content.
Samba TV’s database only contains digital information regarding publicly available content, such as shows aired on public broadcast networks. As a result, Samba TV cannot recognize and does not know when you are watching personal, non-public content, such as home movies you shot with your video camera and played on your TV.
Samba TV retains your TV viewing history by associating it with your television’s unique Samba TV ID.
You can change it by going to System Preferences on your TV, and then to Samba Interactive TV > Privacy > Reset device advertising ID.
Please contact Samba TV at (email@example.com).
Samba TV uses the information it collects through Samba Interactive TV for a number of purposes, including providing, maintaining, monitoring, and analyzing usage, and improving its services; personalize the company’s services and delivering recommendations, advertisements, content, and features that match your interests; and, communicate with you about products, services, and events offered by Samba TV or others.
Samba TV also collects information through Samba Interactive TV to respond to your comments and questions and provide customer service; and, to detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent and other illegal activities, so it may better protect the rights, safety and property of Samba TV and others.
Hotlist is an online app for your BRAVIA television that provides short video clips, such as interviews of actors, film directors, etc.
Samba TV Mobile is a mobile app provided by Samba TV available for Android and iOS mobile devices.
