Before You Start

  • Follow the update instructions carefully.
  • This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
    • A computer with:
      • 500 MB or more available Hard Disk Space
      • 512 MB or more installed Memory (RAM)
      • An active Internet connection
    • Use only the USB cable supplied with your Sony camera.
      Note: Proper functionality of this update procedure is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Close all programs currently running on your computer and disconnect any other devices that may be connected.
  • WARNING!
    • This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It's not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process, downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
    • Don't allow the computer to enter Sleep (Standby) mode during the update process. To change these settings, refer to your computer manual or consult the manufacturer.
    • Unless instructed in this procedure, do not operate or turn off the Wireless Radio Commander until after the update is complete.
    • Failure to follow the instructions, or an interruption in the update process, may cause the Commander to become unresponsive or to require repair.

Determine if you need this update

  1. Turn on the Wireless Radio Commander.
  2. Press MENU button.
  3. Turn the control wheel to select tab 2, and then press the CENTER button.
  4. Turn the control wheel to select VERSION, and then press the CENTER button.
  5. Turn the control wheel to select CMD, and then press the CENTER button.

  6. If the version number displayed is 2.00, you do not need to update the firmware.

Download & Install


Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Ensure your computer is connected to the Internet.
    Note: Do not connect the camera until prompted to do so.
  2. Download the Update_FAWRC1MV200.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  3. Go to the directory where you just downloaded the update, double-click the Update_FAWRC1MV200.exe file, and the System Software Updater screen will be displayed.

  4. Turn on the Wireless Radio Commander.
  5. Using the USB cable supplied with your Sony camera, connect the Wireless Radio Commander to the computer.
    Notes: If the message Could not find the device for this update appears on the computer, follow these steps:
    • Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it again
    • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try a different terminal
  6. In the System Software Updater screen, once the connection has been made, click the Next button.
    Note: If a Windows Security prompt is displayed, click Install.

  7. The System Software Updater will verify the connection and computer.

  8. Once the connection has been verified, the update will start and the progress bar will show the preogress of the update.

    Note: The update process takes approximately 12 minutes.
  9. Once the update process is complete, the Wireless Radio Commander will automatically restart.
    Note: The restart process may take a few minutes
  10. At the Finish the update screen, click the Finish button.

  11. Turn the Wireless Radio Commander off. wait thirty seconds, and then turn it back on again.
  12. Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
    • If the version number is 2.00, the firmware update was successful.
    • If the version number isn't 2.00, delete the Update_FAWRC1MV200.exe file from the computer, and then download and install the update again.
