Set up Dolby Vision on the Blu-ray Disc player

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

    Before you start

    • Make sure your Blu-ray Disc™ player has the latest firmware (Version M43.R.0175 or higher).
    • Use a Dolby Vision™ compatible Blu-ray Disc or video streaming service.
    • Use a Dolby Vision compatible TV.
    • If you're using a soundbar or A/V Receiver, make sure it's Dolby Vision compatible.

    Connection and Settings

    1. Connect your Blu-ray Disc player to the TV directly. 
      1. Use a premium Hi-Speed HDMI® cable or HDMI cable that supports 18Gbps bandwidth.
      2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port of the player.
      3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN port of your TV.

      Note: Your TV may have a specific Dolby Vision-compatible HDMI port. Check the TV manual for details.

    2. Set up your Dolby Vision compatible A/V Receiver or Soundbar (if applicable).
      1. Use two premium Hi-Speed HDMI cables or HDMI cables that supports 18Gbps bandwidth.
      2. Connect the HDMI IN port of the TV and the HDMI OUT port of the Sound bar with the first HDMI cable.

        Note: Your TV may have a specific Dolby Vision-compatible HDMI port. Check the TV manual for details.

      3. Connect the HDMI IN port of the Soundbar to the HDMI OUT port of the Blu-ray Disc player with the second HDMI cable.
      4. Set up your Dolby Atmos compatible A/V receiver or soundbar.
    3. On your Blu-ray Disc player, turn on Dolby Vision Output.
      1. On the Blu-ray Disc player remote control, press the HOME button.
      2. Select Screen Settings.
      3. Select Dolby Vision Output.
      4. Select ON.
        • The default setting is OFF. There's no Auto setting.
    4. Set your TV input to HDR.

      Note:

      • If model-specific information is required to complete each step, check your manual.
      • For third-party TVs, check your manual or contact the manufacturer for more information.

      1. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button.
      2. Select Settings.
      3. In the TV category, select External Inputs.
      4. Select HDMI Signal Format.
      5. Select Enhanced Format.

    Dolby Vision output specifications

    The dynamic range of the TV output is based on the Dolby Vision Output setting and the type of TV:

    Note:

    • If Dolby Vision Output is set to OFF, Dolby Vision-compatible videos use HDR10 instead.
    • If Dolby Vision Output is set to ON, Video Settings and 3D Playback are unavailable.
      • Non-Dolby Vision and non-HDR videos will play back using Dolby Vision output.
