The iTunes 11 application stops responding when opening iTunes Store.
You may encounter an issue where the Apple® iTunes® 11 application will stop responding when you open the Apple® iTunes Music Store® online music store on a computer using the Windows 8 operating system.
You can get the iTunes 11 application working if the video card driver is uninstalled and the computer restarted. This will install and allow the iTunes 11 application to use the generic Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. The drawback of using this option is that you will not be able to adjust the brightness or project the display to an external monitor.
Follow these steps to configure the computer to allow the iTunes 11 application to perform properly without having to use the generic driver or any other limitations.
- Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click System.
NOTES: Because System is a traditional Windows Desktop application, if you were not already there, the interface will change to the Desktop and the System window will open.
- In the System window, click Advanced system settings.
- In the System Properties window, on the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
- In the Environment Variables window, in the System variables section, click to select the Path variable, and then click the Edit button.
- In the Edit System Variable window, in the Variable value field, add the following to the very end of the existing text: \;c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you do not change any of the existing text in the Variable value field because that text is needed to ensure other applications perform properly.
- Once the text has been added to the Variable value field, click the OK button.
- You should now be able to open the iTunes store from within the iTunes app using the latest video card driver.
