How to determine the IDE controller and device location number used for the installed CD/DVD drive.

    1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel window, under Pick a category, click Performance and Maintenance.
    3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System.
    4. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
    5. On the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
    6. In the Device Manager window, on the menu bar, click View, and then click Devices by connection.
    7. Next to Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    8. Next to Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    9. Next to PCI bus, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    10. Next to VIA Bus Master IDE Controller, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    11. Next to Primary IDE Channel, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    12. Next to Secondary IDE Channel, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
    13. Under Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel, determine which controller contains the CD/DVD drive.
    14. Under the appropriate controller, double-click the CD/DVD drive.
    15. In the Properties window, on the General tab, next to Location, the device location number will be displayed.
