How to determine the IDE controller and device location number used for the installed CD/DVD drive.
- Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, under Pick a category, click Performance and Maintenance.
- In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System.
- In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
- On the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
- In the Device Manager window, on the menu bar, click View, and then click Devices by connection.
- Next to Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Next to Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Next to PCI bus, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Next to VIA Bus Master IDE Controller, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Next to Primary IDE Channel, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Next to Secondary IDE Channel, click the PLUS (+) symbol.
- Under Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel, determine which controller contains the CD/DVD drive.
- Under the appropriate controller, double-click the CD/DVD drive.
- In the Properties window, on the General tab, next to Location, the device location number will be displayed.
