Before You Start

Check the firmware version

If the version is displayed as "3500" or lower, we strongly recommend for you to update the firmware. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of the firmware you currently have:

  1. Turn on the speaker.
  2. Launch the “Sony|Music Center” application.
  3. Connect your speaker to the “Sony|Music Center” application.
  4. Select "Settings".
  5. Select “System”.
  6. Confirm the firmware version (numbers in red box).

Important notice

  • Do not perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi® signal is inconsistent, such as on a train, in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested, or near a microwave, cordless phone, or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves.
  • Make sure both devices (Android/iOS device and speakers) are fully charged.
  • Make sure your unit is connected to a power outlet via the USB AC adaptor (SRS-XB23/SRS-XB33) or AC adaptor (SRS-XB43) before starting the update.
  • Disconnect all other Bluetooth® devices such as wearable devices or smart watches from your Android/iOS device before starting the update.

Before you upgrade

  • Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • The file size is about 1.5 MB for the SRS-XB23, about 1.6 MB for the SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB43.
  • For Android devices, the update process will take approximately 3 minutes to complete.
  • For iOS devices, the update process will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
  • Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android/iOS device, it may take longer to complete.
  • To update these speakers, follow the procedure below.
    • Download data from the server to the iOS device or the Android device.
    • Transfer data from the iOS device or the Android device to the speakers.
    • Execute update with the speakers.

Download & Install

To update these speakers, follow the procedure below:

  1. Download data from the server to the iOS device or the Android device.
  2. Transfer data from the iOS device or the Android device to the speakers.
  3. Execute update with the speakers.

Step 1: Install the update

  1. Connect to a power supply outlet.
    • [SRS-XB23/SRS-XB33]: Use the USB AC adapter and supplied USB Type-C cable to connect the unit's DC IN 5V port to a power outlet
    • [SRS-XB43]: Connect the supplied AC adaptor to the DC IN 5V port on the speaker and an AC outlet
      NOTE: The software update cannot be performed when using battery power only.
  2. Turn on the speaker.
  3. Launch the "Sony|Music Center" application.
  4. Connect your speaker to the "Sony|Music Center" application.
  5. The following screen will be shown when the connection has been established.
  6. If an update is applicable, "Update the software of the speaker." will be displayed and you can press "More Info".
  7. Verify that "Version 3700" is displayed and press "OK" to start the update.
  8. Once the download starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the download is completed.
  9. Once the transfer starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the transfer has been completed.
    NOTE: Do not turn off your speakers while downloading updates, transferring data or updating, otherwise the speakers may become unusable. When the software update is completed, press "OK".
  10. If the screen is not displayed, check whether the version has been upgraded in the following step.
  11. The speaker automatically turns off when software update ends.

Step 2: Check the update was successful

After the update, confirm that the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps in the [Check the firmware version] section. If the firmware version shown is "3700", the upgrade was successful.

Questions & Answers

An update error message appears.

  1. Press "OK".
  2. Restart (turn the power off then on) the speaker.
  3. After that, restart "Sony|Music Center" and update again

Even though the update failed during the process, check the firmware version. If the Version is shown as 3700, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the firmware update again. You can check the Version from the setting in the "Sony|Music Center" application. To find out how to check the version, go to the "Check the firmware version" on this page.
