Your TV may turn on or off for a variety of reasons. The following information provides steps to help troubleshoot this issue.
- Perform a power reset of the TV:
- Turn off the TV.
IMPORTANT: For a projection TV that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the TV to allow the lamp to cool before continuing.
- Unplug the TV power cord from the electrical outlet.
- Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
Note: If your TV was plugged into a power strip or surge protector, plug it directly into the wall outlet in case the power strip or surge protector was causing a problem.
- Turn on the TV.
- Turn off the TV.
- Make sure the power cord is plugged in all the way.
- If the power cord is removable from the back of the TV, make sure that it is firmly plugged in.
- If a separate AC power adapter is used, check the connection between the adapter and power cord.
- Make sure that the power cord is plugged all the way into the wall outlet.
- Remove any power strips, surge suppressors, or similar devices from the TV to verify that the problem isn't caused by these devices.
- Try a different wall outlet and make sure that it doesn't have a switch that turns the power on / off.
- Press the POWER button on the TV (not the button on the remote) to turn it on. If the TV turns on, the batteries in the remote may need to be replaced or there may be a problem with the remote control.
- Replace the batteries in the remote control and check if the problem persists. This tests whether the remote is malfunctioning, rather than the TV.
- Repeat the procedure if you use a second remote control.
Cover the remote sensor on the TV to check if the remote control is sending continuous commands to the TV.
This step won't work if the remote control isn't infrared (for example, a touchpad remote control).
- Disconnect all external devices from the TV (USB, LAN connection, HDMI® connection, Antenna, etc.) except the power cord and turn the TV on. If the TV turns on and stays on, reconnect the devices one at a time until you find the device that's causing the issue.
- If your TV turns on or off at regular intervals such as 30 minutes to an hour, or if the TV turns on or off when an HDMI-connected device is powered on or off, follow the steps to disable clock, timer, and sensor settings that may cause the TV to turn on or off automatically.
- If your TV turns on or off at regular intervals, such as 30 minutes to an hour, it's likely caused by power saving functions such as Idle TV Standby, On Timer, and Sleep Timer.
- If the TV turns on or off when an HDMI-connected device is powered on or off, check the Bravia Sync settings.
- If your TV has the Wi-Fi® function, temporarily turn it off to test and help isolate the issue.
- Update the TV software to the latest version.
- Reset your TV to the original factory settings.
