Sound problem after Android 8.0 TV update v6.5830 (previous version)

    Your home theater system (soundbar, A/V receiver, etc.) may no longer output sound from the TV after it has been on standby for a long time. This issue may occur if your TV has version v6.5830 of the Android 8.0 TV update installed.

    A new version of the Android™ 8.0 Oreo™ update which resolves this issue is now available.

    The automatic update for Android 8.0 Oreo resumed at the end of April on a staggered schedule so it may take some time before this new version it is sent to your TV. If you don’t want to wait, you can download the update from your and follow the instructions to manually install it (requires a USB flash memory drive).

    If, however, you prefer to wait for the automatic update, you can follow the workarounds below to temporarily address the sound issue.

    Follow the workarounds provided in order. If the symptom(s) persists, use the next workaround.

    Note:  Before you start, set the Audio system prioritization to On

    • Select [HOME] > [Settings] > [Sound] > [Audio system prioritization]

    Workaround 1

    • Turn off your audio device using the audio remote control. 
    • Turn off your TV using the TV remote control.
    • Turn on your TV using the TV remote.

    Note: The Audio device will turn on automatically through the BRAVIA Sync function (HDMI CEC).

    Workaround 2

    • Change the Speakers settings to TV speakers.
      • Select [HOME] > [Settings] > [Sound] > [Speakers] > [TV speakers].
    • Turn off the TV with the TV remote control.
    • Turn on the TV with the TV remote control.

    Note: The Speakers settings will switch to [Audio system] automatically through the BRAVIA Sync function (HDMI CEC). 

    Workaround 3

    • Set the BRAVIA Sync control option to Off.
      • Select [HOME] > [Settings] > [External inputs] > [BRAVIA Sync settings] > [BRAVIA Sync control
    • Select [Yes] when [Remove recognized devices from the list] is displayed.
      • The BRAVIA Sync control will be switched off.
    • Set BRAVIA Sync control to On again.
      • The Speakers settings will switch to [Audio system] automatically.

    Note: You may need to perform this procedure each time the TV is turned off and then on again.

    Workaround 4

    • Perform a power reset or restart of the TV
