Home Theater - Component

    If you want to hear the TV sound through the speakers connected to a Home Theater System, you'll need to connect your TV to the Antenna/Cable directly (without a Set Top Box). If you are using a Set Top Box, you'll need to output the sound from the Set Top Box to the Home Theater System.

    Before Connecting

    An A/V Receiver is a typical component of a Home Theater system. It's basic functionality is to receive an audio signal and amplify the same and allow it to pass through of the video signal from other A/V devices to the TV.

    Making a Connection

    1. Antenna cable
    2. Audio cable (optional) - Mini-plug to RCA/Composite Audio cable
    3. Component Video cable connected to Y/Pb/Pr COMPONENT jacks.

    TV Set-up

    1. After making a connection, turn on the TV and Home Theater System.
    2. Press the (Input) button repeatedly to select the input to the connected Home Theater System.

    3. For audio connection, access the Settings screen
      • If the remote control has a Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, press the Quick Settings button and select Settings.
      • If the remote control does not have a Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, press the HOME button and select gear Settings.
    4. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
      • Select Display and SoundAudio OutputSpeakersAudio System.
      • Select SoundSpeakersAudio System.
    5. The connected audio system is turned on automatically. The volume can be controlled using the TV's remote.
      If you connect a BRAVIA™ Sync-compatible device, you can control it by simply using the TV's remote.
      • For HDMI ARC and Optical audio connection, you need to configure the Digital Audio Out settings according to your audio system:

        Notes:

        • If the remote control has a Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, press the Quick Settings button and select Settings.
        • If the remote control does not have a Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, press the HOME button and select gear Settings.
      • The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
        • Select Display and SoundAudio OutputAudio system settingsDigital Audio Out
        • Select Display and SoundAudio OutputDigital Audio Out
        • Select SoundDigital Audio Out
      • Select Auto or PCM (Select Auto if the device connected via DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) is compatible with Dolby Digital. Select PCM if the device is not compatible with Dolby Digital).

    Troubleshooting

    These are basic troubleshooting steps based on the latest TV models. Refer to your product manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
    If the symptom still persists, please contact Product Support.

    No picture appears on the TV screen when connected to the Home Theater system via Component.

    For some 2014 TV models (i.e. KDL-xxWxxxB Series), there is Problem Diagnosis feature that may detect connected device symptom: Press HOME button on the remote → HelpCustomer Support → Problem Diagnosis: External Device Symptom.

    Please check the following:

    • Is the Component cable connected correctly?
    • Is the Component input selected on TV?
    • If a resolution setting unacceptable to your TV is mistakenly selected, you can reset it to the factory default. In this case, press STOP button on the player for more than 10 seconds to reset the video output resolution to the lowest resolution.
    No audio or low audio when connected to audio system
    • Make sure proper connection and both TV and Home Theater System are on
    • Make sure proper input settings for both TV (see above TV Setup) and Home Theatre System.
    • On Settings Sound, make sure the settings are set as below:
      • Speakers: Audio System.
      • Headphone/Audio Out: Audio Out.
      • Audio Out: Fixed.
    • If there is still no audio, slightly increase the television volume.
    • If there is still no audio, slightly increase the volume level on the Home Theater System.
    • If you select an analog (RF) channel and pictures are displayed correctly, change the TV broadcast system. Press the HOME button, then select SettingsAnalog Set-upManual Program PresetTV System. (Availability of Manual Program Preset or option name differs depending on the region/country/situation.)
