How to restart, perform a power reset, or restore your Android TV or Google TV to its original factory settings
There are three different methods to reset your Android TV™ or Google TV™:
- Restart or Power Reset is always recommended as the first step because it can resolve many issues without affecting your TV settings or saved information.
- Factory Data Reset is the next step when the restart/power reset doesn't resolve the issue. This option will erase all user settings and return the TV to its original factory specifications.
- Forced Factory Reset should be considered a last resort. Similar to a standard Factory Data Reset, it will delete all user settings and return the TV to its original factory specifications. Use this option only if you are unable to access the TV menu, do not have a remote control, or if you are specifically instructed to do so.

Instructions
Watch the video or follow the written instructions below to reset your TV.
Video playback may not work if trying to view it from the TV Help section.
Step 1: Restart or Power Reset
The menu items and steps may vary by model, so follow the steps that best match your TV menu.
If your TV does not respond to the remote control, perform a Power Reset instead.
Restart using the supplied remote control (easiest)
- Turn ON the TV.
- Point the remote control at the illumination LED or status LED (1) and press and hold the POWER button of the remote control (2) for about five seconds, or until the message "Power off" appears.
- The TV should restart automatically. Wait for approximately one minute, and the TV will turn back ON. If it does not, press the POWER button on the remote control to turn ON the TV.
- The TV restart operation is complete. Check to see if your issue has been resolved.
Alternatively, you can also use the TV on-screen menu to restart the TV. Using the remote control, follow the steps that best match your TV.
- Press
(Quick Settings) → Settings → System → Restart → Restart
- Press HOME → Settings → About → Restart → Restart
- Press HOME → Settings → Device Preferences → About → Restart → Restart
Power Reset
If restarting the TV didn't resolve the issue, try performing a Power Reset. With this process, you disconnect the power cord so the electricity in the TV is discharged. As a result, unnecessary data and error information in the memory will return to their defaults, and allow you to use the TV again normally.
Skip this step if your TV power cord is inaccessible.
- Turn OFF the TV.
- Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
- Let the television remain without power for two minutes.
- Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
- Check to see if your issue has been resolved.
For some Google TV models, you can also perform a power reset by pressing the POWER button on the TV for about 40 seconds, or until the TV turns off.
Step 2: Factory Data Reset
Step 3: Forced Factory Data Reset

This procedure is typically used to address app errors, situations where the TV restarts by itself, or cases where the TV does not respond to remote control commands.
