How do I power reset my Android TV or Google TV?

IMPORTANT: This article is for Android TV™ models only. If your TV is not an Android TV, refer to this article to perform a power reset.

You can unplug the TV power cord and plug it back in, use the TV remote control, or use the TV menu to perform a power reset.

The power reset is an important part of TV troubleshooting as your TV runs the Android™ OS, which is also used in many smartphones and tablets. As with these devices, performing a power reset (or restarting) your Android TV is an effective method to resolve issues including (but not limited to):

    • the picture doesn't appear
    • only the sound is output
    • the remote control doesn't work
    • an app is slow, buffering, or not loading

Detailed instructions are provided below on how to do a power reset.

    Before you start

    • Make sure the TV is turned on.
    • Remove any external USB storage devices from the TV.

Perform a power reset by unplugging the power cord

    1. Turn off the TV.
    2. Unplug the power cord for two minutes, and then plug it back in.
    3. Turn on the TV.

Note: For Google TV except for X75K, X91J(85), and W8xxK series, the following alternative method has the same effect:

    • On the TV, press the POWER button for about 40 seconds, or until the TV turns off.
