From Ironman warrior to certified sports nutritionist and fitness advisor, you’d be hard pressed to find an area of the fitness world that Tom Holland hasn’t touched. Holland has helped thousands of people get motivated and in shape through his many books, DVDs and radio show, as well as living out an active, healthy lifestyle himself. Running over 60 marathons around the world and competing in 22 Ironman competitions, Holland certainly has an impressive fitness resume that has inspired many to get off their couches and start their own fitness routines.
To keep up with Holland’s many types of training activities, he needs audio gear that’s sturdy, wireless and has a long-lasting battery life. Holland put the NW-WS410 waterproof sports music player and MDR-XB650BT EXTRA BASS headphones to the test while training for his next Ironman competition. Read on to learn about Holland’s favorite workout tips, why he chose to make fitness his career and how the NW-WS410 waterproof sports music player and the MDR-XB650BT sports headphones fit in with his daily strength training, running and swimming workouts.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in fitness?
Holland: I have been extremely passionate about fitness since childhood and decided to make my passion my vocation in my early 20s. I have the greatest job in the world—helping people feel better, look better and live longer. There is simply nothing I would rather do.
Q: What exercises do you focus on while using the Sony NW-WS410 waterproof sports music player?
Holland: I am an Ironman triathlete who loves to use a sports music player whenever possible while training. I use this waterproof sports music player during strength workouts and while running, swimming and riding a stationary bike indoors. It’s great to be able to take the sports Walkman® to all of my training sessions and not have to worry about its durability.
Q: How does this waterproof sports music player impact your normal workout routine?
Holland: Music is a huge motivator for me when I exercise and train for races, especially when I swim, which I personally find to be mind-numbingly boring. This waterproof sports music player has made my swim training for my upcoming Ironman race exponentially more enjoyable. Not only can I use it in the pool, but I also take it with me in the ocean for my open water triathlon training. I love that its IPS5/68 rating allows the waterproof sports Walkman® to be submerged in salt water without a problem.
"This waterproof sports music player has made my swim training for my upcoming Ironman race exponentially more enjoyable."
Q: What are some of your favorite features of the NW-WS410 waterproof sports Walkman®?
Holland: I exercise with my sports music player frequently. I’ll work out about two to three times per day, indoors and out, in all kinds of challenging conditions and often for hours on end. I need my equipment to be able to withstand all of these criteria, and the NW-WS410 waterproof sports Walkman® is up to the challenge. The 12-hour battery life certainly comes in handy, as well as the quick-charge function. Being able to plug in the sports Walkman® for only three minutes to get a full 60 minutes of use is a great feature for those who live an active lifestyle and exercise multiple times per day.
Q: Is using wireless headphones important to you while working out?
Holland: I often say the warm-up to my workout is the five minutes it takes to untangle my headphone cord. Using Bluetooth® headphones allows me to jump right into my workout rather than having to fight with a knotted mess beforehand.
Q: What are some of your favorite features of the MDR-XB650BT headphones?
Holland: I love the look of these sports headphones, along with the incredible ease of use and their functionality. These headphones look great and feel great—two things that don’t always go hand-in-hand when it comes to workout headphones. The cushioned ear pads and adjustable headband give me the long-lasting comfort needed for those longer workout sessions. I especially like the added functionality of the built-in microphone that allows you to take calls between songs.
Q: Do you have any final workout tips to share?
Holland: One of the keys to success is to mix it up! When you change up your fitness routine frequently, it keeps you mentally stimulated and motivated while challenging your body. Next time you work out, try to switch up your regimen—the type of exercises you do, when you train, your workout music playlist and your surroundings. Your mind and body will thank you.
