Sony Announces Key Top Management Appointments

Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation today announced three key management appointments at Sony Corporation of America (SCA), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). Howard Stringer has been named chairman and chief executive officer of SCA, Thomas D. Mottola has been named chairman and chief executive officer of SME and John Calley has been named chairman and chief executive officer of SPE, effective immediately.

Mr. Stringer will continue to report directly to Nobuyuki Idei, president and co-chief executive officer of Sony Corporation, and both Messrs. Mottola and Calley will now report to Mr. Stringer. Both Mr. Mottola and Mr. Calley will maintain full responsibility for the day-to-day running of their respective operations. Mr. Stringer will continue with his responsibilities as chairman of Sony Electronics and chairman and chief executive officer of Sony of Canada.

Commenting on today's announcement, Mr. Idei said, "Howard's new appointment reflects the ever increasing importance of his role as a bridge between the technological and software areas of Sony's operations in the United States. He has continued to work closely with Tommy, John and the management teams of all of our U.S. businesses, and to fortify Sony's overall strategic goals in the digital environment of the future.

"The Sony top management team in the U.S. is now stronger than ever before. I believe that Howard will build on the mutually supportive and collaborative relationship that he has been developing over this past year with Tommy, John and Teri Aoki, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics," Mr. Idei continued.
