![]() ![]() ![]() OpenMG Light to be Provided for NTT DoCoMo's PHS-Compatible "M-stage music" ![]() ![]() The M-stage music distribution system has been jointly developed by Sony and IBM Japan, based on IBM Corporation's electronic media distribution technology EMMS and Sony's OpenMG Light. Sony is responsible for the copyright protection and distribution portions of the compatible terminals. With this system, M-stage music PHS terminals equipped with OpenMG Light can download high-quality music directly using the audio compression technology ATRAC 3**. The music content can also be stored on MagicGate Memory Stick*** recording media. Sony intends to continue developing network technology including copyright protection technology. * OpenMG Light is a digital rights management and distribution system for PDAs and mobile devices. It builds on the existing OpenMG system which provides copyright protection technology for data stored on PCs. It contains a distribution function and a copyright protection function. ** ATRAC 3: Audio compression technology developed by Sony. *** MagicGate Memory Stick: Copyright protection is implemented by MagicGate chips mounted both on the device and the Memory Stick which mutually authenticate each other.
