Sony’s Android TVs Expand Smart Capabilities with New On-device Amazon Alexa App
Sony Electronics - 06/26/2019
Sony Electronics Inc. today announced that Sony’s Android TVs are the first to offer expanded smart capabilities and functionality with Alexa through the new Amazon Alexa Music, Cameras and TV Control app. Available on Sony’s Android TV platform in the Sony Select row on the home screen¹, US customers can install the Alexa app on their TV and enjoy music, see live video from their compatible smart home cameras, and pair their TV with an Echo device for convenient voice control with Alexa.
Using the new Alexa app on their TV, Sony TV customers can connect to popular smart home cameras from Ring, Wyze and others to see their camera’s live view on the TV without ever leaving the couch. Customers can also use the app for voice control of music by asking Alexa to play a song, artist or genre through Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify (coming soon)² and others on the TV. The app also works with Sony’s Android TV skill for Alexa, allowing customers to use their paired Echo device to control playback of movies and TV shows from Prime Video and other installed apps on the TV. Additionally, customers can use Alexa voice commands to turn the TV on/off, change channels and more, all with a seamless hands-free experience.
The Amazon Alexa Music, Cameras, and TV Control app is available starting today on all Works with Alexa certified Sony Android TVs.
