EMILY SUSSKIND NAMED PRESIDENT BROADBAND SERVICES COMPANY SONY CORPORATION OF AMERICA/SONY ELECTRONICS INC.
NEW YORK, NY - February 23, 2000 -- Sony Corporation of America and Sony Electronics Inc. have created a Broadband Services Company to manage their rapidly expanding broadband and cable-related business interests, it was announced today by Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation of America and Chairman, Sony Electronics Inc., and Teruaki Aoki, President, Sony Electronics Inc.

This new business unit will be headed by Emily Susskind, and will have a broad mandate to explore and develop all of Sony's hardware and systems solutions business interests, and exploit all of Sony's content and technology assets to create new service businesses.

"Sony has a multifaceted stake in the shift to broadband content distribution, as evidence by our recent agreement with Cablevision to support their development and implementation of digital cable systems and services," said Howard Stringer in making this announcement. "We are delighted that Emily, who has been central to all of these negotiations, will now lend her considerable talents to implement this strategy for Sony."

The Broadband Services Company (BSC) will report to a steering committee headed by Howard Stringer, and including Teruaki Aoki, Y.H. Lee, Executive Vice President, SCA; Y. Kubota, President of the Network TV Division Company of HNC, and Ed Grebow, President of Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment will provide support to help develop subscription and event services for this undertaking.

Emily Susskind joined Sony Corporation of America as Senior Vice President, Interactive Services in October 1998, to oversee the company's initiatives in areas of convergence, new technologies, and digital services. She has been involved in all of Sony's strategic negotiations with Cablevision and TiVo, among others, and is on the board of Sony Online Entertainment. In addition to assuming this new assignment she will also continue on with her responsibilities as Senior Vice President at SCA.

Prior to joining SCA, Ms. Susskind was Senior Vice President, Technology, for Dow Jones Markets (1997-98), where she managed all of the technology supporting the company's financial information distribution business. The systems under her aegis delivered proprietary content and applications over global networks to customer sites worldwide. Earlier, Ms. Susskind served as Senior Vice President, Systems Development for TELE-TV Systems L.P. (1996-97), a joint venture of three regional phone companies, where she managed the development of a complete digital video service platform.

Before joining TELE-TV, Ms. Susskind held a series of increasingly responsible positions in information technology at Salomon Brothers, Inc. (1985-1996), culminating in her appointment as Director, responsible for the company's worldwide networking capability and infrastructure, in support of its global operations in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

Ms. Susskind earned an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1981, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Mathematics from Wellesley College in 1976.
