The blue multi-channel decoding indicator should illuminate when the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver is decoding a multi-channel audio track from a DVD/Blu-ray Disc™ player, a DSS receiver or a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the blue light does not illuminate:
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is needed to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
On the A/V receiver:
- Check that the playback component is connected to a digital jack and that the input is selected properly on the A/V receiver.
- Check whether the input source of the software being played back corresponds to the multi-channel format.
- Check whether the setup on the playback component is set to multi-channel sound.
- Check whether the digital audio output of the selected input is not assigned to another component.
- Verify that HDMI® audio is set to AMP in the Audio Settings menu. If it is set to AMP+TV, the sound will be output from the TV speakers; however, you cannot playback multi-channel software.
On the DVD/BD player:
- The DVD/BD player must be connected to the A/V receiver with a digital cable (optical or coaxial).
- Verify that the DVD/BD disc is encoded with a multi-channel audio track. The DVD/BD software may not contain a multi-channel audio track. This is often found when viewing older films that were converted to the DVD/BD format.
- The multi-channel audio track must be selected from the DVD/BD software menu. The DVD/BD software menu can be accessed using the remote control for the DVD/BD player by doing the following:
- Press Menu.
- Select Languages.
- Select ENGLISH 5.1 or DTS track.
NOTE: The multi-channel audio track on most domestic (Region 1) DVD/BD software titles will be in English.
- The DVD/BD player must be set up to play multi-channel audio. The DVD/BD player menu should be set to recognize Dolby® Digital 5.1 and/or DTS™ 5.1 multi-channel audio. This can be adjusted in the Audio section of the Setup menu of the DVD/BD player.
On the DSS receiver:
- Verify that the program being viewed has multi-channel surround sound content.
- The DSS receiver must be connected to the A/V receiver with an optical digital cable. If the DSS receiver does not have this output, it is not capable of outputting Dolby Digital surround sound.
- Check the menu setting in the DSS receiver to verify that the audio output is set to Dolby Digital.
On the PS3 gaming system:
- Check to make sure the digital audio output on the PS3 is set to bitstream. Otherwise, the PS3 will decode the HD audio and send it through only as Multi-channel PCM.
NOTE: The PS3 system has the ability to decode or unzip Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA lossless audio and send it to your receiver as a multichannel linear PCM (LPCM) stream. If this option is select from the PS3 menu, the receiver will not display LPCM instaed of the blue multichannel light but Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD will be heard.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.
