If the A/V receiver is displaying PROTECT when starting a DVD movie, there could be a loose connection or an incorrect setting. Follow these steps to try to resolve this issue:
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is needed to complete these steps, refer to the instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
NOTE: Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the A/V receiver after completing each step.
- Verify all connections from the DVD player to the A/V receiver are connected securely.
NOTE: The connections should be outputs on the DVD player to inputs on the A/V receiver.
- If the DVD player is connected to the A/V receiver using 5.1 audio/video composite cables, a digital optical cable or a digital coaxial cable, verify that the speaker selector is set to A only.
- If the DVD player is plugged into an AC outlet on the rear of the A/V receiver, disconnect the AC adapter from the A/V receiver and connect it directly to a wall AC outlet.
NOTE: Not all A/V receivers have an AC outlet.
- Turn off the A/V receiver and remove all cables, speaker wire connections and digital connections, and then turn on the A/V receiver.
NOTE: If the A/V receiver does not display PROTECT with all the components disconnected, turn off the A/V receiver and connect one component at a time, turning on the A/V receiver between each connection, to see what component is causing the A/V receiver to go into the PROTECT mode.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.
