ILCE-7CM2: Initial setup and checking basic operations
Please refer to this helpful guide as you prepare to use your ILCE-7CM2 camera. The guide provides detailed instructions on how to insert, remove, and charge the battery, attach a lens, and use the Creators' App for initial setup. Additionally, you will also learn how to perform basic operations such as touch operations, navigate the main menu, and customize functions.
Preparing the camera
Removing and inserting the battery pack
Refer to the Help Guide for details or skip to the steps.
- On the bottom of the camera, slide the switch on the battery cover and open the cover.
- Insert the battery pack and make sure it locks into place. Close the cover and slide the switch to the LOCK side.
Charging the battery pack
- With the camera turned off, connect an external power source to the camera's USB terminal with a USB cable to charge the battery pack.
- Use a cable that complies with the proper USB standard for this camera. This camera terminal requires a USB Type-C™ connection.
- You can charge the battery pack with an external power source such as a USB AC adapter (sold separately) by connecting the USB cable.
Note: Fast charging is supported when a device compatible with USB PD (USB Power Delivery) is connected.
Attaching a lens
Make sure the camera is turned off before attaching or removing a lens. Perform the procedure quickly in an environment free of dust.
The following steps explain how to attach the kit lens SEL2860 (FE 28-60mm F4-5.6) that comes with the ILCE-7CM2L.
Note: If you did not purchase a lens kit, attach a lens that you have purchased separately.
- Remove the body cap from the camera.
While holding the camera securely with one hand, use the other hand to turn the body cap counterclockwise to remove it.
- Remove the rear lens cap from the rear of the lens.
While the lens body with one hand, use the other hand to turn the rear lens cap counterclockwise to remove it.
- Align the mounting indexes on the camera and lens. Turn the lens clockwise relative to the front of the camera, until it clicks into place.
- To prevent dust from entering the camera, keep the image sensor side of the camera facing down.
- Do not press the lens release button when attaching a lens.
- The message "Please extend the lens by rotating
the zoom ring to take photos or
video." is displayed when you turn the camera on with the lens attached.
- This message is cleared after you turn the zoom ring to extend the lens to "28" on the focal-length scale.
- Shoot with the focal-length scale set within the range of 28–60.
- Turn the zoom ring a little harder near the "28" and "•" positions, where the resistance is greater.
- Retract the lens after you have finished shooting by aligning the focal-length index (•) with the index at the retracted position.

Initial setup
You can easily perform the initial camera setup by pairing the camera with a smartphone over a Bluetooth® connection and using the Creators' App smartphone app.
Installing the app initially is convenient because once the settings are complete, you can transfer images to your smartphone and use it to control the camera remotely.

Basic operations
Touch operations
When you use touch functions, you can easily adjust settings or focus on subjects by tapping the screen. Tapping the touch function icons along the left and right sides of the screen is an easy method to adjust camera settings.
Main menu
To view the Main menu listing of shooting settings, press the MENU button and select the (Main) tab on the screen to display the Main Menu.
- You can confirm the settings before shooting or for each scene and also change the settings directly from this screen.
- Items listed will vary depending on whether they apply to still images or movies.
Customizing operations
Function menu
The function menu contains frequently used functions. Use it for quick access to functions you want to adjust. To access the function menu, press the Fn (function) button in the shooting mode, or swipe up on the LCD screen.
Note: You can register separate functions for still imags and movies by using the Fn Menu Settings feature.
Custom button/dial settings
Besides using the function menu, you can assign frequently used functions to custom buttons and dials.
Cleaning the monitor
If the monitor becomes dirty with fingerprints or dust, gently remove the dust from the surface, and then clean the monitor using a soft cloth, etc. Be careful not to wipe the monitor too roughly with tissue paper or a similar material, as this may scratch it.
Consider using a protective glass sheet that supports touch operations.
