Clean and maintain the OTC Self-fitting Hearing Aids

Make sure to regularly clean your OTC Self-fitting hearing aids to prevent wax and residue build-up on the microphones, sleeves, and wax guards, which can cause the sound to become muffled or low. Use the provided brush or cleaning cloth for daily cleaning to wipe away any visible wax or residue from:

• The case.
• The hearing aids and the microphone holes: Use the cleaning cloth to wipe the hearing aids and gently brush around the microphones to remove any wax build-up daily.

• The sleeves: Use the supplied brush or cleaning cloth to wipe the outside of the sleeve and loosen wax build-up or other debris from the tiny holes at the tip of the sleeves.

Give them an occasional deep cleaning

It's great to clean your hearing aids daily, but it's also important to give them a deeper cleaning sometimes to get rid of any buildup inside the sleeves. Along with the supplied cleaning tools, you can also use hearing aid cleaning wipes like AudioWipes to wipe away any visible wax or residue from the hearing aids, sleeves, and case.

1. Remove the sleeves and look for wax build-up on the outside and inside. We suggest holding the sleeve to a light and examining the tiny holes at the tip.
2. Use the cleaning cloth, brush, or recommended hearing aid wipes to remove visible wax or residue.
3. Attach the sleeves to the hearing aids.

Replace the sleeves and wax guards periodically

How often you'll need to replace them will depend on how much wax your ears produce and how much wear and tear they undergo. Nevertheless, we suggest replacing them at least every three months or when you begin to notice a decline in sound quality.

  Replacement sleeves are available on the Store site. They are available in four sizes (XS, S, M, L) and each package contains three pairs of sleeves. Don't forget to select the appropriate size!

  • For CRE-C10: CRE-S1VS Vented Sleeves
  • For CRE-E10: CRE-S1CS Closed Sleeves
  • For CRE-C20:
    • CRE-S2VL Vented Sleeves
    • CRE-S2CL Closed Sleeves

• Replacement wax guards

  The CRE-C10 and CRE-E10 hearing aids use Signia Connexx mini receiver wax guards and replacements are available for purchase online through the Hearing Shop.

  The CRE-C20 hearing aids are supplied with Signia NanoCare 3.0 wax guards and additional replacements are available for purchase online through the Hearing Shop.

  Steps to replace the wax guards

  1. Remove the sleeve from your hearing aid.
  2. Remove a new stick from the package of wax guards.
     
     Note: You will notice that one end of the stick has a new, white wax guard and the other end is empty.
  3. Insert the empty end of the stick into your hearing aid's current wax guard.
  4. Gently twist the stick 2-3 times and then slowly pull the stick away from the hearing aid to remove the old wax guard.
  5. Take the other end of the stick, with the new wax guard, and insert it into your hearing aid.
  6. Gently pull the stick away from the hearing aid and the wax guard should remain.
  7. Attach the sleeve to the hearing aid.
     
     Note: We recommend replacing the sleeves and wax guards at the same time to ensure the best sound quality.
