Free replacement Infrared (IR) Cut Filter

    Dear Valued Sony Customer,

    We have developed a new IR cut filter to improve color reproduction when using the BURANO digital cinema camera under strong lighting conditions, particularly sunlight. We will provide the filter replacement free of charge to BURANO owners who wish to replace the original filter. Requests for replacement filters must be submitted by June 30, 2026.

    Applicable cameras

    BURANO (MPC-2610) digital cinema cameras with serial numbers in the following ranges may be eligible for the filter replacement.

    • 1000001 to 1000727
    • 1500001 to 1500271

    Check if your camera has the new filter

    Some cameras may already have the new filter installed. Carefully remove the E-Mount lens or PL adapter and inspect the upper part of the front optical filter component for a small protrusion. Cameras with the protrusion already have the new filter and need no further action.

    If the camera is within the applicable serial number range and does not already have the new filter, you may request a replacement until June 30, 2026. If you would like to request a replacement, follow the instructions below or contact Professional Products & Solutions.

    Important

    The filter replacement requires specialized tools. We recommend that users not attempt the replacement themselves.

    Request an IR filter replacement

    To request an IR Filter Replacement, download and complete the Service Repair Form. Refer to the form for the shipping address of the repair center.

    Note

    You must ship the camera to the repair center. We do not offer drop-off and pick-up services.

    Completing the Service Repair Form

    The Service Repair Form is a fillable PDF. You can complete it on your computer or mobile device and then print it out, or print it out and complete it by hand.

    Important

    Include the completed form in the shipping box with your BURANO camera.

    1. Enter the name of the carrier and the Tracking Number for the shipment to the service center.
    2. Enter the date shipped, and complete your contact information.
    3. Enter the Model number, MPC-2610.
    4. Enter your camera Serial #.
    5. In the Detailed Description box, enter BURANO IR Filter Replacement Program.
      Note

      If you have any other issues you’d like the depot to address, include them in the Detailed Description box as well.

    6. For service type, check the WARRANTY box.
      Note

      No proof of purchase is needed for this program.

    7. In the Return Shipment section, enter the name of your preferred carrier (optional).
      Note

      Do not enter your carrier account number. Sony will pay the return carrier charge.

    Important

    Remove the battery pack and all memory cards before sending the camera for the filter replacement. Sony is not liable for the loss of any data stored on memory cards, costs related to recovery of such data or the value of any memory card.

    Check the service status

    Visit the Check the Status of your Repair page and enter your camera's model number (MPC-2610) and serial number, or the service notification number.

    Note

    • You should receive your camera back within seven business days of the date the service center receives it.
    • If your camera has additional issues that need to be addressed, the turnaround time may be longer depending on parts availability or payment for the repair.
