Test your Internet connection speed
The websites below can be used to test your Internet speed. These links are Flash-based or Sun™ Java™ software-based, and are suitable for testing the speed of Internet searches or browsing:
- speedtest.net
-
Note Offers a variety of tests that may be more suitable for advanced computer users.
-
Note Browser-based and suitable for testing the speed of streaming videos with larger file sizes.
-
Note Netflix® provides this speed test tool, which measures only the download speed.
Note When you perform one of these tests, take note that your wireless connection's speed, even with excellent signal strength, can be 30-50% slower compared to wired connections. The disparity between wired and Wi-Fi® performance is due to several reasons including additional network protocol overhead, radio interference, physical obstructions between devices and decreasing signal strength with distance. In addition, as more devices communicate on the network simultaneously, its performance will also decrease. Whenever possible, always use a wired connection for best performance.
