Before You Start


Important Notes

  • WARNING!! Do not turn off the drive or remove the memory card during the update process.
  • This utility requires a memory card for use with the DVDirect drive. During this process, the "vcrdmc1.svf" file is extracted and then saved or copied to the memory card. Please see "About Memory Cards" in the Operating Instructions for more information about compatible recording media.
  • When the DVDirect drive is connected to your computer as an external DVD drive, you can save the extracted file directly to a memory card inserted into the DVDirect drive. Please see "Using DVDirect with a computer" in the Operating Instructions for more information about connecting the drive to your computer.
  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions

  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  2. Download the VRDMC1.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the VRDMC1.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the file to the desired location.
  5. At the "WinZip Self-Extractor - VRDMC1.EXE" dialog, click the "Browse" button to locate and select the desired location to save the extracted file, then click "Unzip".

    Note: To save the file directly to a memory card inserted into the DVDirect drive, ensure the drive is connected to the computer as an external DVD drive and powered on.

  6. At the "1 file(s) unzipped successfully" dialog, click "OK", and then click "Close".

    Note: The "vcrdmc1.svf" file should now be saved to the root directory of the memory card or to a temporary or download directory. If the file was not saved to the memory card, please copy the file from the temporary or download directory to the memory card before proceeding.

After saving the "vcrdmc1.svf" file to the memory card, you are ready to update the software on the DVDirect drive.

How to install the DVDirect System Software Update
  1. Ensure the memory card containing the "vcrdmc1.svf" file is inserted into the DVDirect drive.

    Note: Before proceeding, make sure a disc is not inserted into the DVDirect drive and that the disc tray is closed.

  2. Power off the DVDirect drive, set the mode switch on the left side of the unit to "STANDALONE", and then power on then unit.
  3. On the DVDirect drive, press the "left arrow" button to display the main menu.
  4. On the menu, select "Setup", and then press the "Select" or "right arrow" button.
  5. On the menu, select "System", and then press the "Select" or "right arrow" button.
  6. At the "System Revision: x.xx.xx.xx Upgrade?" screen, select "OK", and then press the "select" button.
  7. At the "System Revision: from x.xx.xx.xx to x.xx.xx.xx" screen, select "OK", and then press the "select" button.
  8. The update will start and read "Upgrading firmware... This will take about 15min" in the display and the record button will blink.

    IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the drive or remove the memory card during the update process.

  9. After the update is complete, the DVDirect drive will automatically restart and become ready for use.
