This utility installs the Hi-Res Audio Recorder software for your PS-HX500 turntable. The Hi-Res Audio Recorder is an application to record audio tracks of a vinyl record onto your computer in the high resolution format and includes the following features:
- Recording audio tracks of a vinyl record: Connect the turntable and your computer with the USB cable supplied with the turntable. Then, you can record audio tracks in high resolution format (DSD or PCM) from the vinyl record being played on the turntable.Note: The maximum duration available for recording is 100 minutes.
- Editing the temporary file: You can add markers to the recorded data (temporary file) and specify ranges of data to be exported to files. Add markers to the temporary file in order to:
- Remove the silent section before the first audio track or the ones between tracks
- Divide the temporary file into individual audio track files after you have recorded all the audio tracks on either side of a vinyl record
- Gain adjustment: You can adjust the signal level (gain) for the recorded data (temporary file).
You can select automatic gain adjustment as well as manual gain adjustment that allows you to increment the gain by 1 dB between +1 dB and +6 dB. - Exporting the temporary file: You can export the recorded data (temporary file) to your computer.
You can also enter the album name, the album artist name, track titles, and track artist names before exporting the temporary file.

Important Notes
- During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.

Computer System Requirements
This software requires a computer meeting the following system requirements:

Note: This software is not guaranteed to work for all computers even if they meet the above system requirements. Furthermore, the following systems are not supported:
- Personally constructed computers or operating systems
- Upgraded operating systems
- Multi-boot environments
- With power-saving features enabled: System Suspend or Sleep Mode (Standby)
- When the latest Windows updates have not been applied. (Use the Windows Update application to check for the latest updates)
Download and Installation Instructions

IMPORTANT: Before installing this software, please apply the latest Windows updates using the Windows Updates program on your computer. Otherwise this application may not install successfully or may not detect the turntable. For assistance in installing Windows updates, please refer to your computer manufacturer or Microsoft Corporation.
- Download the Hi-ResAudioRecorder_1.1.0.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Hi-ResAudioRecorder_1.1.0.exe file.
- If the User Account Control screen appears, click Yes or Continue.
- At the Choose Setup Language screen, select the language for the installation, and then click Next.
- At the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Hi-Res Audio Recorder screen, click Next.
- At the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Sony Turntable Driver screen, click Next.
- At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next to continue.
- At the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.
- At the Would you like to install this device software? screen, click Install.
- At the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, click Finish.
- At the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Hi-Res Audio Recorder screen, click Next.
- At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next to continue.
- At the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.
- At the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, click Finish.
- At the final InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, click Finish to exit the wizard.
The Hi-Res Audio Recorder software installation is complete.
Uninstalling the Hi-Res Audio Recorder Application
The following steps have been provided in case you need to uninstall this application.
- Open the Control Panel of your operating system:
- Windows 7: Click the Start button, click Control Panel.
- Windows 8/8.1 and 10: Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
- In the Uninstall or change a program window, click to select Hi- Res Audio Recorder, and then from the menu bar, click Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish uninstalling the application and driver software.
Questions & Answers
Starting the Hi-Res Audio Recorder Application
Please note: The steps below are provided as an example when using a computer running Windows 7, your steps may vary, depending on the version of Windows running on your computer.
- Click Start, select All Programs, Sony Corporation, Hi- Res Audio Recorder, and then click Hi- Res Audio Recorder.
- The Hi- Res Audio Recorder application starts.
Troubleshooting
Installation fails:
- Make sure that you are using a computer with one of the supported operating systems. For detailed information, see the Computer System Requirements.
- Make sure that the disk drive has sufficient free disk space. Installation requires free disk space of about 100 MB. If there is not enough free disk space, remove unnecessary files.
Your computer fails to detect the connected turntable:
- Disconnect the USB cable and restart your computer. Make sure that the computer is up and running, and then connect the computer and the turntable with the USB cable.
- Make sure that the USB device driver software is successfully installed: Note: Connecting your computer to the turntable with the USB cable for the first time, or if using a USB port other than the one you used previously may automatically install the USB device driver software.
- Connect the turntable to the computer and turn it on.
- Open the Device Manager of your operating system:
- Windows 7: Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then click Device Manager.
- Windows 8/8.1 and 10: Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, at the left of Sound, video and game controllers, click the PLUS (+) symbol to expand the category.
- Under Sound, video and game controllers category, confirm that PS-HX500 is listed.
Hi-Res Audio Recorder does not start:
- Your computer may not be running properly. Start another application to see if it works properly.
- Your computer may not be running properly. Restart the computer.
- Make sure that the Hi-Res Audio Recorder is successfully installed.
- Open the Control Panel of your operating system:
- Windows 7: Click the Start button, click Control Panel.
- Windows 8/8.1 and 10: Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Control Panel.
- Click Programs, click Programs and Features, and then from the list of applications, make sure that Hi-ResAudioRecorder is displayed.
- Connect the turntable to the computer and turn it on.
- Open the Device Manager of your operating system:
- Windows 7: Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then click Device Manager.
- Windows 8/8.1 and 10: Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, at the left of Sound, video and game controllers, click the PLUS (+) symbol to expand the category.
- Under Sound, video and game controllers category, confirm that PS-HX500 is listed.
- Open the Control Panel of your operating system:
- If the Hi-Res Audio Recorder is not successfully installed, uninstall the application, and then install the software again.
