Change channels on a Google TV using a remote control without number buttons

Your Google TV remote may not have traditional number buttons, but you can still easily change channels using the on-screen channel guide, voice commands, or manual selection with the Numbers function of the TV menu.  Alternatively, you can purchase a different remote that includes number buttons.  Please see the details for each option outlined below.

    On-screen channel guide

    • Press the  (Guide) button on the remote control to access the on-screen channel guide. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the guide, and then press the (select) button to go to the desired channel.

    Voice commands (Google Assistant)

    • Press the  (Google Assistant) or  (MIC) button on your TV remote control and say "Watch channel number."
      • Note: You must confirm the agreement to use Google Assistant when you press the button for the first time.

    Numbers function (manual entry)

The Numbers function is available when the TV's selected input connects to a device with channels like a cable box, antenna, satellite dish, etc.

How you access the Numbers function is based on the remote control you have, so follow the steps that best match your remote buttons.

Steps for remotes with a 123 button

    1. On the TV's remote control, press the  (input) button, and make sure the selected input is connected to a device that has channels.
    2. Press the 123 (control menu) button, and the channel number banner will appear on the TV screen.
    3. Use the remote to select the numbers for your desired channel.

Steps for remotes with a MENU button

    1. On the TV's remote control, press the  (input) button, and make sure the selected input is connected to a device that has channels.
    2. Press MENU button, and then use the arrow buttons to scroll right.  Stop on the Numbers feature.
    3. Use the remote and the on-screen number pad to select the numbers for your desired channel.

Note: After selecting each number, press the Enter button on the remote control (Example: 1, Enter, 2, Enter, 3 Enter). The channel you entered will automatically appear if it exists. If you don't enter the channel numbers quickly enough, the TV will change to the channel matching the numbers it captured.  If this occurs, try again.

Purchase a remote with number buttons

If you want a remote control with number buttons, consider purchasing a different Sony remote or a compatible third-party option. While many Sony remotes are compatible with various TV models, keep in mind that using an older Sony or third-party remote may result in the loss of some features like Voice Control or specific app buttons.

Generally, Sony remote controls with model number RMF-TX310U or higher retain most, if not all, features of your original TV remote and include number buttons. Here are some remote options from our partner, Encompass Parts:
