Topics covered in this article:
Common causes of audio sync issues
Understanding why your audio is out of sync can help you find the right solution.
- Broadcast issues: Sometimes the TV channel itself has sync problems
- Connection problems: Loose or damaged cables between devices
- Processing delays: Audio systems may need time to process sound
- Incorrect settings: Game Mode or audio output settings may need adjustment
- Software issues: Outdated TV firmware can cause sync problems. If the TV is connected to a soundbar or home theater system (with an HDMI® cable or optical cable), the sound may be delayed due to audio processing delays in the soundbar or home theater system. In such cases, there are no issues with the TV speakers.
Note: If there is an input lag issue when using a game console with a Google TV or Android TV, refer to the article Reduce input lag when using the Game setting.

Written steps
These simple solutions resolve most audio sync issues:
- Power restart your TV: Your BRAVIA® TV runs the Android™ OS, which is also used in many smartphones and tablets. As with these devices, restarting your TV is an effective method to resolve many issues. Press and hold the Power button on your remote control until you see Cancel or Restart appear on your TV screen. Select Restart, and then wait for the TV to power OFF and back ON. If you need more details on a restart, refer to the article applicable to your TV type:
- For Google TV and Android TV models: How do I power reset my Android TV or Google TV?
- For other TVs: How do I power reset my LCD / LED or Projection TV?
- Check the channel, input, or streaming app: Change the channel or input to determine if the issue affects all channels or inputs. If only one channel, it's likely a broadcast issue.
- Check the cable connection: Make sure all cables are firmly connected between your TV and external devices.
- Update the TV software to the latest version: You can check the TV software in most TV menus by going to Settings → System → Software Update.
- If you need additional assistance, refer to the article How to perform a software update on your TV.

Because each of the steps below represents a possible solution to this issue, check if the issue is resolved after completing each step.
- For Google TV or Android TV model years 2024 or later: Change Post Process Setting to Standard instead of Dolby Audio.
- For other TV models: Look for Sound Mode settings and switch to Standard.
- If your TV has a Game Mode setting, do one of the following:
- If using a game console: Set the Game Mode to On when playing a video game.
- For other content such as watching TV or a Blu-ray Disc™ player: Set the Game Mode to Off.
Connected to soundbar
If your TV is connected to a soundbar and audio is delayed:
- Check that your HDMI or optical cable is securely connected.
- If you are using an HDMI connection, make sure the cable is connected to the ARC or eARC port on both devices.
- Set the Digital Audio Out to PCM.
Connected to Home Theater System
If there is a home theater system and a digital optical cable is used in the connection, manually change the Audio/Video Sync or Audio Delay setting on the home theater system (if available).
- Audio delay adjustments usually range from 0ms to approximately 250ms.
- For information about the availability of A/V sync or Audio Delay setting, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product.
- For a third-party home theater system, check the instruction manual or contact the manufacturer for information on how to adjust the A/V sync setting.
