After installing the software update 114.602.050.1 or later, the operating system is upgraded from Android 12 to Android 14. Android 14 introduces a new Energy Mode setting that changes how the TV's built-in microphone functions when the TV is in standby mode.
Note Because BRAVIA 9 II (XR90M2) and BRAVIA 7 II (XR70M2) models ship with Android 14 preinstalled, this setting is available from initial setup. If you have one of these models, you will not experience this change after a software update.
Why this happens
When Energy Mode is set to Low, the built-in microphone does not operate while the TV is off (standby). As a result, the TV will not respond to the voice command "OK Google." This behavior is expected and is designed to reduce standby power consumption.
In addition, if Remote Start was set to Off before the software update, Energy Mode automatically changes to Low after the update. Because of this change, voice activation using "OK Google" may stop working when the TV is off, even if it worked before the update.
How to enable "OK Google" while the TV is off
If you want to use "OK Google" with the built-in microphone while the TV is in standby mode, change the Energy Mode setting:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Power and Energy.
- Select Energy Mode.
- Change the setting to Optimized or Increased.
