Refer to the information below if you have no GPS signal or receive the following messages:
- Waiting for a valid GPS signal...
- The GPS signal was lost...
IMPORTANT: Before beginning the troubleshooting steps below, do the following:
- Install the MyTomTom PC support application software. Do not connect your Navigation module to the computer until after completing this step. Additional information is available regarding the installation instructions.
NOTE: If you have already installed this on your computer, or your computer indicates that you have the latest version, confirm that you have version App 10.873.783778.514 or higher (e.g., App 10.871.xxxxxx.xxx). If you have the necessary version, you can skip this step. A different procedure is available if you need assistance to determine the software version information for the Sony AV Navigation receiver .
- Establish an Internet connection with your computer.
- Once your computer is connected to the Internet, connect your Navigation module to your PC.
NOTE: If an update is available, it will be indicated in the MyTomTom software and depending on the type of update, the update process may begin automatically or you will need to click Start downloading in MyTomTom. If your device was not up-to-date, after updating it, test your signal again. If you still continue to have trouble obtaining a signal, follow the troubleshooting steps below:
In order for you to acquire a GPS signal, your device needs to obtain signals from at least four satellites. If you receive signals from less than four satellites or the signals are not strong enough, the Driving View turns gray.
If the screen turns gray, refer to the following:
- Reset your device by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds.
- Finding a GPS signal:
Under the following conditions it can take up to five minutes to find your current position:
- When you start your device for the first time.
- When you start your device after it not being used for a long time.
- You start your TomTom device or GPS receiver after it has been relocated without using it (e.g. after traveling by plane or train).
- Find a clear view of the sky. Your TomTom device must be outdoors to locate your current position. Try repositioning your device in your car. Ideally, position it at the lowest possible point with a direct view of the windshield.
- If the car has windows made of heat-absorbing glass, it may be hard for the GPS signal to pass through. In this case, mount the GPS antenna in an area where there is no heat-absorbing glass.
- Try resetting your device to factory settings .
- If the issue is not yet resolved, restart the car stereo. Press and hold the OFF button on the remote commander or the SOURCE button on the front panel of the car stereo to turn off the unit. Then, wait for approximately 10 seconds or longer before turning the car stereo on.
- If it takes longer than five minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
- Once your navigation device has located your current position, the Driving View is shown in full color and will show your position on the map.
