How to perform a System Restore using the keyboard.

WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. The System Restore utility will return the registry to the configuration of the computer on the date and time selected. If the restore is unsuccessful, or if the copy of the registry being restored is corrupted, a format and recovery of the computer may be required. A format and recovery of the computer will delete all files from the hard drive.

WARNING: There is a risk of software corruption. The System Restore utility will return the registry to the configuration on the date and time selected. Programs installed since that time may need to be reinstalled. Reinstalling these programs may also bring back the same issue, but help identify the cause.

NOTE: If the operating system will not start in Normal Mode, restart the computer in the Safe Mode.

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows key to open the Start menu.
  2. Press the P key to open the Program menu.

    NOTE: If the Program menu is not selected, press the P key until the Program menu is selected.

  3. Press the DOWN ARROW key until Accessories is selected.
  4. Press the RIGHT ARROW key.
  5. Press the DOWN ARROW key until System Tools is selected.
  6. Press the RIGHT ARROW key.
  7. Press the DOWN ARROW key until System Restore is selected.
  8. Press the ENTER key.
  9. In the System Restore window, press the TAB key until the Next button is selected.
  10. Press the ENTER key.
  11. In the System Restore window, in Choose a Restore Point, press the TAB key until a calendar date is selected.
  12. Press the ENTER key.
  13. Press the TAB key until the NEXT button is selected.
  14. Press the ENTER key.
  15. Press the ENTER key to close the System Restore window.

    IMPORTANT: Save and close all open files and programs at this time. Do not alter, open, or delete any files or programs until the restoration is complete.

  16. Press the TAB key until the Next button is selected.
  17. Press the ENTER key.

    NOTE: The operating system will be restored to the date and time selected and then the computer will restart.
